After a busy couple of weeks, I’m really looking forward to a discussion on the book, climate change and Australia’s role in the emerging low carbon global economy at Mosman library tomorrow night. You’re more than welcome to come along - in particular I’m calling on all Sydney-based climate deniers to come along. I would really like to have a good discussion from all view-points. See you there!

This week I’ve been attending and presenting at the 8th international carbon dioxide meeting in Germany . Among the numerous of presentations, the one that is most disturbing is the realisation that the carbon dioxide already in the atmosphere has a very long lifetime (1000-10000years). It turns out that even if we go to a carbon neutral economy in the future with zero carbon emissions, 20-35% of CO2 stays in the atmosphere over the coming 1000 years (Go here to download the presentation).
Key message: Actions in the past and today lock in global warming for the world over very long time-scales.
Josh Fear from the Australia Institute has written a comprehensive review of the book along with the unfortunate politics that seem to always act as barriers to the change we need. It was published at The University of Sydney publication ‘Sydney Ideas Quarterly‘.
Had a good discussion on Australia’s energy future on ABC radio national with Tony Delroy’s nightlife program last night along with PWC’s Andrew Peterson.
Here’s the mp3 audio if you want to have a listen
Nearly missed the interview though by landing at Sydney airport 30 minutes before the live interview aired at 10pm in Ultimo! A great cabbie got me to Ultimo in 15 minutes - a near record I reckon
After a well needed weeks break from activity, the reviews seem to be flowing through. Attached is the review from Mary-Lou Considine at Ecos Magazine.
