Last night, Lateline headlined their program on the future of the coal industry in Australia – where I was interviewed. Go here to access the story and video. I was really happy that both Margot ONeill (producer) and Tony Jones referred to my analysis in Chapter 8 of CIR ‘Breaking our Coal Addiction’ which shows that the coal industry only invest 0.3% of their revenue into developing clean coal technology. Other industries (like car-manufacturing, IT, or pharamceuticals) invest 7-14% into research innovation. There has been a conspicuous absence of news coming from COAL21 (the group formed way back in 2003) aside from a new slick website called NewGenCoal – which I hope can inform us of the industries rapid plans to commercialise such technology. We still wait unfortunately!
